See The Big Picture with Stephen Wiltshire - Witness history in the making as he draws the Singapore skyline from memory at Paragon from 16-20 July!
with Singapore Press Holdings

Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH), Asia’s leading media organisation, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

SPH was formed on August 4, 1984 through a merger of three organisations - the Straits Times Press group, the Singapore News and Publications Limited and Times Publishing Berhad which was later de-merged from SPH in 1988. The merger brought together the English, Malay and Chinese newspapers under one roof. SPH later also bought Tamil Murasu Pte Ltd.

In a short span of 30 years, SPH has become a media powerhouse. Its flagship newspapers have a longer and richer heritage – close to 170 years for The Straits Times and over 90 years for Lianhe Zaobao. Besides 19 newspaper titles and over 100 magazines in Singapore and the region, SPH now owns a myriad of local and regional online products, three radio stations, a book publishing arm, internet TV and outdoor media.

As part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations, SPH has invited and commissioned world-renowned artist Stephen Wiltshire to draw the Singapore panoramic skyline. A prodigious savant, London-born Stephen Wiltshire has gained worldwide acclaim as an architectural artist with a unique talent for drawing accurate representations of cityscapes from memory, after having only observed them briefly. He will draw the Singapore skyline entirely from memory, after a RSAF helicopter ride, from 16 to 20 July, at Paragon.

Through our integrated media solutions ranging from print, digital, broadcasting, out-of-home advertising to innovative events and our luxury mall Paragon, we bring to you the big picture – Stephen Wiltshire's inspiring story, his amazing talent and our beautiful Singapore skyline.

As a company that strongly believes in engaging the community, students from School of the Arts, La Salle College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Pathlight School, Very Special Arts and Little Arts Academy will get special visits to Paragon to watch Stephen Wiltshire at work and enjoy his existing works on display in a special exhibition.

In September 2014, the four metre-long art piece commissioned by SPH will be presented to President Tony Tan Keng Yam as our gift to the nation, in celebration of Singapore's 50th birthday in 2015.

Apart from this visual spectacle, SPH has organised a series of activities this year to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

In March this year, SPH launched its 30th anniversary celebrations with a special concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at Paragon. The SPH Lucky 30 Draw from March to May attracted over 30,000 participants with $88,000 worth of prizes. There was also a groundbreaking ceremony for the SPH Walk of Giants at the Botanic Gardens in April.

Upcoming celebration activities include special subscription deals, a birthday concert at the revamped Victoria Concert Hall, the groundbreaking ceremony for The Seletar Mall, a charity outing to Singapore Gardens Festival, and a charity cheque presentation to 50 charities. Look out for details in the coming months on www.sph.com.sg.

As Asia’s leading media organisation, SPH will always bring you the big picture with our multiple platforms and products.
